I am a Business Management Apprentice at Microsoft UK, working in the Solutions Team. Alongside my work, I am studying a Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship, using my 20% off the job learning time to learn about and improve my own managing practices as I work towards a bachelor’s degree and Chartered Manager status. I sit on the board of Microsoft UK’s LGBTQI+ employee resource group, GLEAM (Global LGBTQI+ Employees and Allies at Microsoft) as the communications lead, and beyond Microsoft I chair the Apprentice Council at the Association of Apprentices. Before Microsoft I spent a year at the University of Reading studying psychology, and though it was a valuable year full of learning and independence, ultimately, I decided that it was not a good fit for the path I wanted to take and so, left after my first year with a 2:1 in my studies up to that point. Having found my new route far more rewarding and worthwhile, I am now a strong advocate for apprenticeships, trying spread the word that they are a viable alternative to traditional university.
